Methane emissions from the storage of liquid dairy manure: Influences of season, temperature and storage duration

Methane emissions from livestock manure are primary contributors to GHG agriculture and options for their mitigation must be found. This paper presents the results of a study on methane stored liquid dairy cow during summer winter storage periods. Manure season was under controlled conditions in barrels at ambient temperature simulate conditions. samples were measured two time periods: 0 69 139 days. For period, experiments covered four 70, 138, 209, 279 continuous days, with probing every 10 weeks. Additionally, end all experiments, placed into eudiometer batch digesters, 20 °C another 60 days investigate potential effect aging its emissions. The experiment showed that considerably higher than those winter. CH4 production started after approximately one month, reaching values 0.061 kg kg−1 Volatile Solid (VS) achieving high total 0.148 VS (40 weeks).
